YouTube Settles Trump Lawsuit for $24.5M Amid Google’s Legal Challenges
YouTube, owned by Alphabet's Google, has agreed to pay $24.5 million to resolve a 2021 lawsuit filed by former President Donald Trump. The lawsuit arose from YouTube's suspension of Trump's channel following the January 6 Capitol riot. TRUMP alleged violations of his free-speech rights in a class-action suit that also targeted Meta (formerly Facebook) and X (formerly Twitter).
The settlement allocates $22 million to the Trust for the National Mall, funding a Mar-a-Lago-style ballroom project at the White House. The remaining $2.5 million will go to other plaintiffs. This resolution comes as Google faces mounting pressure from the Justice Department to dismantle its alleged ad-tech monopoly.
